Kate Scherr-Adams

Kate Scherr-Adams merges the fields of Social Work and Nonprofit Management to help teams navigate organizational challenges and develop strategies for achieving positive community impact and social justice. With over two decades of experience, Kate is a skilled strategist, trainer and facilitator with insight, passion, and energy in skillfully managing and enhancing programs, people and projects.

In 2011, Kate founded KS Solutions Consulting to provide professional development solutions and improve organizational effectiveness for nonprofit and public sector organizations. Her approach is deeply rooted in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) principles and  fostering workplace wellness. Kate has consulted with a diverse range of organizations, from small local nonprofits to national nonprofits, government agencies, and universities. She is known for her acute listening and observational skills, enabling her to quickly identify critical issues and levers for change. Her calming and consistent presence, along with her roles as coach and teacher, fosters effective and amicable working relationships with her clients.

Prior to starting her consulting practice, Kate spent 15 years successfully leading nonprofit and government teams, nonprofit boards, and front-line staff to enhance program growth and impact. Her deep understanding of volunteer and board dynamics, strategy development, program design, partnerships and change management has given her the opportunity to influence organizational culture and program success at all levels.

Kate is trained in the Standards for Excellence, a national initiative promoting ethics, effectiveness, and accountability in nonprofit governance, management, and operations, helping organizations develop in these areas. Additionally, she holds a certification from Cornell University in Wellness Counseling, which she integrates into her work to support team and workplace wellness. Kate  teaches a graduate course at the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC), which she enjoys as an opportunity to both learn and help shape future social change agents.

As an active community volunteer, Kate leads a weekly club for middle school students and serves on the Friends of Herring Run Park board. A nature lover and trained hike leader, Kate lives in Baltimore City with her husband and dog, where she has resided for over 20 years. Originally from Columbia, MD, Kate attributes this unique community for shaping much of her values and perspective.
